From Parikia you can take day trips to Antiparos or cruises to the surrounding Cycladic Islands. The most famous monument in Parikia is the church of Panagia Ekatontapiliani (the Virgin Mary of the Hundred Doors). Α Taste of Paros & Local Dishes

The Aegean cuisine is full of authenticity and enriched with cosmopolitan elements. Parian cuisine is based on the products of the sea and land. It is rich in fish, vegetables, salads, and legumes – meat is secondary. Despite the influence of tourism, Parian cuisine remains authentic and true to its roots, offering a genuine taste of the island’s culinary traditions.

Cheese and wine are the main products of the island. Among the favorite dishes are baked chickpeas in a clay pot (revithada) and Gouna, a type of fish, desalted and dried. Gouna is grilled on charcoal, acquiring a rich, smoky taste that pairs perfectly with tsipouro or ouzo.

Experience the Spirit of Paros

Greek Orthodox Easter

Greek Orthodox Easter is one of the most important religious celebrations in Greece, and Paros is no exception as tradition meets a cosmopolitan atmosphere. The weather is mild and pleasant. The Holy Week is filled with spiritual atmosphere and many villages hold traditional feasts, where locals and visitors can sample traditional dishes and wines. Highlight of the holy week is the villages Marpissa, Prodromos and Marmara where local people organize reenactments of the Christ’s Passions during a long walk around the village. What better than celebrating the arrival of spring, the end of winter and the miracle of Resurrection in tone of one of the most beautiful islands of the Cyclades?

Panagia Ekatontapyliani Festival

Every year on August 15th and for the past 1500 years, in the holy church of Panagia Ekatontapyliani (the Virgin Mary of the Hundred Doors) religious ceremonies are held surrounded by festive events. The celebration is followed by a great parade and continues in the evening with illuminated boats and fireworks marking the biggest feast on the island. A truly memorable experience.

Pirates Festival

Every year, on August 23rd the Pirates Festival takes place. It is named after the Ottoman pirate Barbarossa (Redbeard), who is said to have attacked and sacked Naoussa in the 16th century. Young boys dressed in traditional pirate costumes jump from fishing boats and run in the crowd to snatch the girls and take them away. Fireworks, traditional music, dances, local food, and wine are all part of the event. The celebration starts in the afternoon and when the sun goes down the cobbled narrow streets of Naoussa are filled with people who gather to watch the spectacle and dance drinking local wine and “souma” (local drink).

Fish Festival

Fish festival takes place on the first Sunday of July in Naoussa. The fishermen wish to express their gratitude for what the sea has to offer. The celebration includes tasting fresh fish, wine, traditional Greek music, and dancing until the morning lights.
